Have you ever had our Asian Sticky Sauce? It’s so good and flavorful, and while it does have a little list of ingredients they are similar measurements and it comes together in a hurry. Spices like ginger, garlic, and smoked paprika are blended with soy sauce and sweet chili sauce along with brown sugar and then simmered with a cornstarch slurry until it becomes thick and sticky.

Add a quick rub on the salmon fillet and a few drizzles of Asian Sticky Sauce then bake for only 10-15 minutes and dinner is on the table in under 30 minutes!

It all started with our Asian Sticky Slow Cooker Ribs which are not only in our first cookbook, Our Sweet Basil Kitchen, but they’ve been one of or top viewed recipes for a long time now. It’s that sticky sauce, I’m telling you!

I’ve been resisting making a salmon recipe, but Cade was dying to try it so I finally gave in.

The first round of recipe testing happened while we were getting the plumbing taken care of in our task of finishing our basement. Since I’m one of the few human beings in the world that knows practically nothing about salmon I decided to try it our on our plumber. Ha! Who better to test your recipe than your plumber? This is not the norm, but worked!

Our plumber liked the recipe as did his buddy so we buckled down and made sure we had the recipe, bake time and servings correct.  And now we are sharing it with all of you!

How Long to Bake Salmon Fillet

My mom taught me that salmon cooks very quickly, so if you are baking salmon fillet aim for 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes or 350 for 15-20 minutes.

Can You Freeze Salmon Fillet

The best thing to know about how to freeze salmon fillet is that the more fresh it is when you freeze it the better it will keep and the better it will taste when you defrost it.

To freeze fresh salmon fillet, the best option is to buy a vacuum sealer. We use a Food Saver (and if you’ve read this a few times from us just take the plunge and buy one already, haha) as it sucks out all of the air and doesn’t leave space for freezer burn. Frozen this way the fish will last for 6 months.

The next best way is to create an ice barrier. Start with a fresh fish fillet and dip it in cold water. Place the fillet on a baking sheet and freeze it until the water it frozen. Repeat 3 more times and then wrap in freezer paper and place in a freezer bag for up to 3 months.

Finally you can wrap the fish in plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag for up to 1 week.

If you’re making our Asian Sticky Salmon in Foil make sure you freeze the sauce separate or don’t do the ice barrier method. Again, this is why we love the Food Saver, you can freeze with the sauce!

Can You Freeze Cooked Salmon Fillet

You can freeze cooked salmon for up to 2-3 months if you freeze it in a freezer bag with the air pressed out or 4-5 months if you use a food saver.

When you are ready to reheat the salmon make sure you first defrost it in the refrigerator. Reheated salmon is best used in pasta salads, sandwiches or salads. Even this Asian Sticky Salmon in foil would be awesome in an Asian chopped salad!

Can You Bake Salmon Fillet From Frozen

It is perfectly safe to cook frozen salmon. The key to cooking frozen salmon is to start the cooking process with foil over the salmon then remove it for the end of the baking time. Usually a frozen salmon needs a hotter oven as well so turn the heat to 425 and place the frozen salmon in a baking dish, cover it with foil and bake for 5 minutes. Now remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes or until 135-145 degrees internal temperature.

Can You Eat Salmon When Pregnant?

Salmon is safe to eat during your pregnancy, but you should avoid raw prep, including sushi, because raw fish could contain parasites or harmful bacteria for you while pregnant. Make sure you poach, broil, grill or bake salmon fillets.

Can You Make Salmon Fillet in the Microwave or Reheat in the Microwave?

Salmon is one of the firmer fish types that is good when eaten cold, or flaked and tossed into a salad, but when you want it warm you might be wondering if to save on time you can make salmon in the microwave or reheat salmon in the microwave.

Fish should always be baked, poached, grilled, pan fried, or broiled, avoid the microwave for anything fishy.

[Rub and Sauce from Asian Sticky Ribs]
  • Prepare the rub and rub all over the tops and sides of the salmon. Place 2 fillets on each stacked piece of foil so it’s 2 pieces in each packet.

  • Place the packets in the oven or on a baking sheet and then in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes or until 135-145 degrees.

I was only making one 1/2 lb. piece of salmon so I made about a 1/3 of the sticky sauce recipe, which was really easy to make. I was baking chicken already on 375 degrees and wanted to bake the salmon along with it. Put all the cooked sauce on it, wrapped inside non-stick foil and baked for 10 minutes. Opened the foil and baked another 10 minutes. Absolutely delicious!! The sauce is really scrumptious and the salmon was flaky and moist. I can’t wait to make the crockpot ribs with this sauce. Outstanding recipe!!

I love this dish. Normally I just cook within 5 minutes because I like to eat salmon like that. And Goshh, who can freeze the cooked salmon when everytime I cook this, my family finish them at once xD
