There are a lot of fancy Super Bowl snacks out there, but pigs in a blanket will always be the first thing gone. Every. Single. Time. These are made with juicy Lil Smokies wrapped in buttery crescent rolls and baked until golden, then served with a simple homemade dipping sauce that takes them completely over the top.

They’re easy, nostalgic, and totally irresistible which is exactly what you want for a game day party when everyone’s grazing the Super Bowl appetizers in between plays in the big game.

What I Do Different to Make the BEST Lil Smokies

Listen, the truth is most people would choose a hamburger over a hotdog, but I am actually a die hard hotdog fan. I have been since I was a little girl. The first time that I had pigs in a blanket, I was so excited and then was completely bummed by the lack of flavor and especially by how dry they were.

I’ve learned that there are a few things you can do to make your pigs in a blanket better than everyone else’s. Number one always brushed the crescent dough with a little butter and sprinkle with flaky salt. It adds just that little touch of flavor and texture that will make your mouth water and you won’t be able to stop eating them, which is exactly what you want for your guests.

I love when we are throwing a party and people say they can’t stop eating fill in the blank. And my last tip always add a delicious dipping sauce and I’m not just talking ketchup and mustard. I’m talking a smoky honey mustard dipping sauce that is absolutely the best dip I’ve ever had with Little Smokies pigs in a blanket.

Why Pigs in a Blanket are the Ultimate Super Bowl Snack

Pigs in a blanket check every game day box. They’re handheld, crowd-pleasing, kid-approved, and easy to eat while yelling at the TV. You can make a big batch without much effort, they bake quickly, and they’re just as good warm as they are at room temperature.

Add a homemade honey mustard dipping sauce and suddenly this classic appetizer feels extra special without losing that nostalgic, party-food charm everyone loves.

Ingredients You’ll Need

These wrapped lil smokies are made with just a few pantry staples and one easy homemade dipping sauce.

  • Crescent Rolls: Buttery, flaky dough that wraps around the sausages and bakes up perfectly golden.
  • Lil Smokies: Juicy, bite-sized sausages that bring all the savory flavor to this classic appetizer.
  • Unsalted Butter: Brushed on top for extra richness and that irresistible golden finish.
  • Coarse Flaked Salt: A light sprinkle adds crunch and enhances all the flavors (don’t skip it!).

Dipping Sauce

  • Mayonnaise: Creates a creamy, smooth base for the dipping sauce.
  • Honey: Adds sweetness that balances the savory smokies and tangy mustard.
  • Dijon Mustard: Adds just the right amount of tang and depth.
  • Smoked Paprika: Adds subtle smokiness that ties the whole sauce together.
  • Lime Juice (optional): A squeeze of brightness that wakes everything up and cuts the richness.

How to Make Pigs in a Blanket with Little Smokies

  1. Prep: Preheat oven to 375℉.
  2. Cut the Crescent Rolls: Unroll the sheets of crescent roll dough and separate them where they are perforated. Cut each triangle into 3 smaller triangles.
  3. Roll: Place 1 little smokie on the thick end of one triangle and roll toward the thinner side. Repeat until all little smokies or dough triangles have been used.
  4. Brush: Brush the tops of each roll with butter and sprinkle with salt.
  5. Bake: Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes.
  6. Make the Dipping Sauce: Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and whisk together to combine.
  7. Serve: Serve warm with the dipping sauce and enjoy!

The Best Homemade Dipping Sauce

You only need 5 ingredients to make this homemade dipping sauce! I took our honey mustard dipping sauce for ham and added some smoked paprika and lime to deepen the flavor. It pairs so well with these little crescent rolls pigs in a blanket!

How to Keep Pigs in a Blanket Warm for a Party

There is a fine art to keeping pigs in a blanket warm throughout your party. You want them to stay warm without getting soggy. There are two methods that work well – the slow cooker method or the oven method.

Slow Cooker Method: Put your slow cooker on warm and line it with a couple of paper towels. Put the pigs in a blanket in a single layer and keep the lid cracked open with a wooden spoon to let the steam out.

Oven Method: Heat the oven to 200-225 °F and place the pigs in a blanket on a wire rack over a baking sheet. Tent loosely with foil. Both of these methods allow air to circulate around the piggies and they start warm and crispy.

Can You Use Puff Pastry Instead of Crescent Rolls?

Yes absolutely! There will be a couple of key differences. You will want to use an egg wash instead of melted butter to help them get golden brown. You’ll also want to increase the baking temperature to 400-425℉. The baking time should be about the same, maybe a little longer.

Storing and Reheating

Extra pigs in a blanket should be completely cooled and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 4-5 days. You can also freeze them and they will keep for up to 3 months.

They are best reheated in the oven or in an air fryer.

Oven:

  • Preheat to 350°F
  • Place on a baking sheet
  • Reheat for 8–12 minutes (from fridge; 15–20 minutes if frozen)

Air Fryer:

  • Heat to 350°F
  • Reheat for 3–5 minutes
  • Turn halfway through

I prefer reheating in the oven because you can do them all at once and not in batches.

No Super Bowl party is complete without pigs in a blanket, and this version proves why they’ve stood the test of time. They’re easy, comforting, and guaranteed to disappear faster than you expect especially when paired with a homemade dipping sauce.

Inspired by Mexican grilled corn, my mix of Mexican cheeses, jalapeño, and sweet corn makes the most delicious party dip!]]> Elote Mexican Street Corn Queso Dip

Prepare to have your life changed by this Elote Mexican Street Corn Queso Dip Recipe! Inspired by Mexican grilled corn, my mix of Mexican cheeses, jalapeño, and sweet corn makes the most delicious party dip for the Super Bowl, Cinco de Mayo, family parties, and more. This Mexican street corn dip is one of my most popular recipes and my go-to cheese dip for parties.

This Elote dip recipe is easy, cheesy, and so satisfying! The secret to perfect queso is in how you prepare the grated cheese and it’s such a simple step you’ll never have clumpy queso again!

I first discovered elote when the movie Nacho Libre came out. I was instantly intrigued by that creamy, cheesy corn on a stick because it looked utterly irresistible. Since then, elote has grown in popularity, and I have loved experimenting with it at home.

One of my favorite ways to enjoy it is by turning it into a gooey queso dip, which is just as addictive, easy to share, packed with flavor, and perfect for taco nights or casual gatherings. Every time I make it, I am transported back to that first “aha” moment, and it has now become a beloved staple in my kitchen.

When served off the cob, this dish is called esquites. In Mexico, it is a popular street food featuring sweet corn kernels coated in a creamy, cheesy, and slightly spicy sauce. This queso recipe is my take on esquites, capturing all the bold, comforting flavors in a warm, shareable dip.

Ingredients For Elote Queso Dip Recipe

This queso is all about simple ingredients that pack a ton of flavor. Sweet corn, melty cheeses, and a little bit of spice come together to make a dip that everyone will want to scoop up. Grab everything you need, and get ready for cheesy, gooey, elote-inspired goodness.

Base & Sauce

  • Butter: melted with oil to start the queso
  • Vegetable Oil: pairs with butter for sautéing
  • Jalapeño: adds heat and flavor when sautéed
  • Cornstarch: coats the cheese to help thicken the sauce
  • Evaporated Milk: creates a creamy, smooth base
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese: gives sharp, bold flavor
  • Chihuahua Cheese: melts beautifully for authentic queso texture
  • Monterey Jack Cheese: adds creaminess and stretch
  • Salt: seasons the queso
  • Corn: stirred into the queso and sprinkled on top

Garnishes & Serving

  • Mexican Crema: drizzled over the top for richness
  • Cilantro Leaves: fresh herb garnish
  • Queso Fresco or Cotija: crumbled on top for extra flavor
  • Chili Powder: optional sprinkle of spice
  • Tortilla Chips: served on the side for dipping

This queso is game-day ready! It’s perfect with tortilla chips on Super Bowl Sunday, served with your favorite tacos, or drizzled over a hearty burrito.

Looking to add some extra heat to this homemade queso recipe?

Try mixing in extra finely diced jalapeños, a pinch or two of cayenne pepper, roasted green chiles, or even a can of Rotel for a spicy kick that balances perfectly with the creamy cheese sauce.

How to Make Elote Mexican Street Corn Queso?

This homemade queso dip recipe is the ultimate appetizer! It’s made with real shredded cheese (NOT velveeta) tossed with cornstarch in order to perfectly thicken the sauce and melted into a silky, gooey cheese sauce and loaded with sweet elote-style corn. It’s rich, flavorful, and even better than what you’ll find at your favorite Mexican restaurant.

  1. Prep: Toss the cheeses with cornstarch in a large bowl.
  2. Cook: Heat butter and vegetable oil in a skillet, sauté the jalapeños until soft, then set aside.
  3. Whisk: Slowly pour in evaporated milk, whisking until smooth.
  4. Melt: Remove from heat and stir in the cheeses until creamy and the cheese melts, then season with salt and fold in most of the corn.
  5. Finish: Top with reserved corn, crema, cilantro, queso fresco or cotija, and chili powder. Serve warm with tortilla chips.

Can I Make This Queso Dip Recipe in a Slow Cooker?

For a hands-off version of this queso, toss the shredded cheeses with cornstarch and place them in the crock-pot with melted butter, vegetable oil, evaporated milk, corn, jalapeños, and salt. Stir gently to combine, cover, and cook on low for 1 to 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and creamy.

For serving, top with reserved corn, a drizzle of Mexican crema, fresh cilantro, crumbled queso fresco or cotija, and a pinch of chili powder if desired. Keep the crock-pot on warm during your gathering so the queso stays smooth and gooey for dipping.

Storing and Reheating This Elote Queso Dip Recipe

Store any leftover queso in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. When ready to reheat, pull it out of the fridge and warm it gently on the stovetop over low heat or in the microwave in short intervals, stirring often to keep it smooth and creamy. If the queso thickens too much, stir in a splash of milk to bring back the desired consistency.

What to Serve with Elote Queso Dip

Elote queso dip is the kind of appetizer that knocks your socks off! We like to make this one for the Super Bowl! We keep it simple and serve this dip with a big bowl of tortilla chips, but it is just as delicious drizzled over tacos, spooned onto burrito bowls, or used as a topping for nachos.

You can serve it alongside grilled meats like carne asada, chicken, or shrimp for a fun Tex-Mex twist, or keep it simple with warm flour tortillas for dipping. For parties, pair it with guacamole, salsa, and a fresh pico de gallo to create the ultimate appetizer spread.

This elote queso dip is creamy, cheesy, and loaded with bold flavor, making it the perfect Super Bowl appetizer. Serve it warm with tortilla chips, and watch it disappear before your eyes.

There are dozens of copycat PF Chang’s lettuce wraps recipes, but this is the best chicken lettuce wrap recipe out there!]]> a photo of a chicken lettuce wrap topped with crispy rice noodles.

There are dozens of copycat PF Chang’s lettuce wraps recipes, but this is the best chicken lettuce wrap recipe out there! Don’t skip the crunchy rice noodles, they’re the secret weapon that takes these wraps from good to crave-worthy. Juicy ground chicken, savory garlic and ginger, and a simple, bold sauce! Yummm!

Years ago, we were all about the lettuce wraps at PF Chang’s and naturally decided we needed to make them at home. Our first go at it was loaded with all kinds of Asian-inspired extras like hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, shredded carrots, mushrooms, and chopped water chestnuts. Delicious? Absolutely. A true copycat? Not even close.

The more we ate them and dug into what PF Chang’s actually uses, the more we realized the magic is in the simplicity. Just a handful of ingredients and no veggies at all. So we stripped things way back, ditched the extras, and landed on a version that’s simple, bold, and much closer to the real deal. Sometimes less really is more, especially when lettuce wraps are involved.

Ingredients for Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps Recipe

I used to be so intimidated when it came to Asian recipes because the ingredients list can be so long and slightly overwhelming, not to mention hard to find and items you only use once in a blue moon. Well, this is NOT a recipe like that! Here is what you will need:

  • Rice Noodles: Don’t skip these. They fry up quickly and add an irresistible crunch to the lettuce wraps that really makes the dish.
  • Oil: Vegetable oil or canola oil both work great for cooking the chicken and noodles evenly.
  • Ground Chicken: See section below for possible substitutes, but you can keep these lettuce wraps super healthy by using lean ground chicken.
  • Vegetable Oil + Sesame Oil: This combo creates the perfect flavor base. Sesame oil is essential for that classic Asian-inspired taste.
  • Garlic: Adds bold, savory flavor to the filling.
  • Green Onions: Bring freshness and a mild onion bite.
  • Soy Sauce: Low sodium is best so you can control the salt level. Feel free to substitute for coconut aminos for a gluten-free option!
  • Fresh Ginger: Fresh is strongly recommended for the best flavor, though dried can work in a pinch.
  • Iceberg or Butter Lettuce: Both hold up well for wraps and stay crisp without tearing. You could also use romaine hearts though they can be hard to wrap around the filling.

The measurements for all the ingredients can be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.

Protein Substitutes

We’ve found that it’s far easier and faster to use ground chicken because you can use your meat chopper and leave it in minced sized pieces versus the hassle of chopping up chicken thighs. However, that being said, chicken thighs do offer more flavor so it’s up to you.

You could also chop up chicken breasts into little bits before cooking or use ground beef, pork, or even tofu as substitutes as well.

How to Make Lettuce Wraps

Ready to bring restaurant-quality flavor straight to your kitchen? This chicken lettuce wraps recipe is quick, easy, and bursting with bold Asian-inspired taste.

  1. Fry: Heat oil in a small saucepan over medium heat until hot, then add a small handful of rice noodles. They will puff and fry instantly, so flip once, remove right away, and set aside on a napkin-lined plate.
  2. Brown: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable and sesame oils, then add the ground chicken and cook, stirring and crumbling, until nearly cooked through.
  3. Flavor: Add the garlic, ginger, green onions, and soy sauce. Stir well and cook just until fragrant, then remove from heat.
  4. Assemble: Spoon the chicken mixture into crisp lettuce leaves and top with the fried rice noodles. Add sweet chili sauce or sriracha if you like a little heat, then serve and enjoy.

How to Peel Fresh Ginger

If you’re new to fresh ginger, peeling it is easier than you think. While a paring knife works, it often wastes ginger, so I prefer using a spoon. Simply trim the ends, set it flat on a cutting board, and scrape off the skin using the spoon. It comes right off with minimal loss.

For grating, use a microplane or the finest side of a box grater so the ginger becomes almost paste-like and blends seamlessly into the dish.

What to Eat with This Lettuce Wraps Recipe

This lettuce wraps recipe is great for an appetizer or for a light dinner, but you can also use it as a side dish for a heartier meal. They would go great with Asian sticky ribsKorean braised short ribs, or shrimp noodles.

You could also treat the lettuce wraps as the main course and accompany them with our delicious Asian cucumber saladham fried rice, sticky rice, or even cauliflower rice for a low carb option.

Make Ahead and Storage Instructions

The chicken filling for this lettuce wraps recipe can be made 2–3 days ahead of time, making them perfect for easy prep. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days and reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave before serving. For best results, wait to spoon the filling into the lettuce leaves until just before eating so they stay crisp and fresh.

This recipe also freezes beautifully. Let the cooked chicken filling cool completely, then freeze in a freezer-safe container. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat gently on the stovetop before serving with fresh lettuce cups.

You will LOVE these Sweet and tangy Slow Cooker Hawaiian Meatballs recipe made with pineapple, BBQ sauce, and frozen meatballs. Easy to make for weeknight dinner, as an appetizer for parties or for meal prep as an easy freezer meal recipe!

What to Make For Dinner Using Frozen Meatballs

If you’re looking for what to make for dinner tonight, something that’s easy and kid-friendly, these Slow Cooker Hawaiian Meatballs are perfect! You can have dinner prepped in 10 minutes and then just let it cook! Serve with rice and veggies to sop up that delicious sauce!

Recipe Shortcut!

I use barbecue sauce instead of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. You see, in Hawaiian meatballs recipes most people add those ingredients with ketchup which is essentially just making your own barbecue sauce. Why put in extra effort? Just take a shortcut!

Why Readers LOVE Slow Cooker Hawaiian Meatballs

Our family have always been obsessed with my meatball recipe. But I tire of the same thing every month, so I’ve come up with a few new recipes for meatballs. Have you tried our juicy Chicken Meatballs with Orzo? Gosh, I could eat bowl after bowl!!

This time I’ve gone tropical and easy by combining meatballs, chunks of pineapple, and a sweet, tangy sauce for the best family-friendly Crock Pot recipe!

Ingredients for Slow Cooker Hawaiian Meatballs

  • Frozen Meatballs: Fresh works too, we use ground beef meatballs but turkey meatballs would work too
  • Pineapple: Fresh chopped or canned works too
  • BBQ Sauce: Adds a depth of flavor to the sauce
  • Soy Sauce: Adds a touch of salt for flavor
  • Rice Wine Vinegar: Acid to balance the sweet and salty
  • Brown Sugar: A little sweetness
  • Ginger: Adds a little bite and depth of flavor
  • Garlic: Rounds out the sauce

How to Make Crockpot Hawaiian Meatballs

  1. Dump: No need to thaw, just add the meatballs to the slow cooker.
  2. Pineapple: Add the chunks on top of the meatballs.
  3. Mix the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients.
  4. Pour: Pour the sauce over the meatballs and pineapple chunks. Stir gently.
  5. Cover and cook: on low for 5 to 6 hours, on high for 2 to 3 hours
  6. Serve warm with toothpicks as an appetizer, or over white rice for the main dish for dinner.

Can You Use Frozen Meatballs?

Yes! That’s one of the best things about this recipe. Just add the frozen meatballs straight to your slow cooker — no need to thaw. If you’ve only got fresh, use that too, but I recommend browning first in a skillet.

Can You Bake Hawaiian Meatballs?

Instead of using a slow cooker, you can bake frozen meatballs in the oven. Heat to 350 and bake for 30 minutes.

How to Store and Freeze Leftovers

Fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Freezer: Freeze for up to 2 months.

How to Reheat: Warm gently on the stovetop in a deep skillet or in the microwave until heated through.

Juicy, tangy, and full of flavor—these crockpot Hawaiian meatballs with pineapple make the ultimate easy family dinner.

This cowboy caviar recipe is the ultimate easy, healthy dip— loaded with black beansblack-eyed peasavocadocornbell peppers, and bold Southwest flavors. It’s the perfect make-ahead appetizerpotluck side dish, or even a light vegetarian meal. While everyone seems to have their own spin on cowboy caviar, I have to say, this one’s the best! It’s fresh, colorful, packed with plant-based protein, and totally crowd-pleasing.

a photo of a large white bowl full of cowboy caviar consisting of black beans, black eyed peas, diced tomatoes, avocados, green bell pepper, corn, black olives and fresh cilantro.

The first time I ever had cowboy caviar was honestly a little embarrassing. Cade and I were broke newlyweds at a function with people we barely knew, and I was fully prepared to enjoy a generous spread without spending a dime. But then I spotted a big bowl of what looked like… a bunch of weird beans. I hesitated.

Cade, on the other hand, scooped up a huge helping and devoured it like it was the best thing he’d ever eaten. So I gave it a try, and then went back for seconds… and thirds. That’s when things got a little awkward. A sweet woman across the room smiled and said, “I can see you really love that! Let me give you the recipe!” And, well, she wasn’t wrong. I’ve been making it ever since.

a bowl of texas caviar loaded with beans, fresh vegetables all mixed with an Italian dressing.

What I Love About This Recipe

This recipe is totally flexible. If I’m short on one kind of bean, I just double up on another. You can stick to the classic version or make it your own with whatever you’ve got on hand. It’s simple, delicious, and always a hit.

I love that you get that creamy coolness from the avocados with some crunch from the peppers. I love the sweet and the little hint of spicy… mmmmm so yummy. And, it’s easy, which is great for when you want something really tasty but you don’t have a lot of time to put something super fancy together. It’s just simple and delicious. Just how it should be.

What is Cowboy Caviar?

Ok, back to the recipe! Cowboy caviar, or Texas caviar, is a salad with black beans, black-eyed peas, fresh corn kernels, Roma tomatoes, and a light vinaigrette-style dressing. Lots of fresh vegetables (diced small) are mixed with the beans. It is supposed to look similar to caviar, with all the ingredients being similar in size to the beans. It is the perfect thing to bring to a summer BBQ as a dipappetizer, or the perfect summer side dish! Be prepared to be asked to bring it to every event from here on out.

Is This Cowboy Caviar Recipe Healthy?

When it comes to dip recipes, this is just about as healthy as it gets. It’s vegan and gluten-free, and oh so delicious! Beans are a great source of protein, and all those fresh vegetables are full of vitamins and nutrients. If you are concerned about fat or calories, you could lessen the Italian dressing that you add or omit the avocados. Though avocados are the best kind of fat! Mmmmmm…I love them!

What Goes in This Cowboy Caviar Recipe?

You will start your grocery shopping on the canned goods aisle and then end up spending most of your time in the produce section. I absolutely love how fresh and healthy this dip is! Here is what you will need:

Fresh Produce

  • Bell Pepper: Any color works great or a combination of colors… so pretty!
  • Diced Roma Tomatoes or Grape Tomatoes: Use Italian or Mexican-style tomatoes if you use canned, and be sure to drain them well.
  • Red Onion: Dice it up fairly small.
  • Avocados: Look for ripe avocados. I like to cut them small while still in the skin and then scoop them out.
  • Cilantro: Chop it up nice and small.
  • Lime: You will use the zest and juice. It adds the best punch of flavor!

Pantry Goods

  • Black Olives: We like to get the medium size and then slice them up.
  • Frozen Corn or Hominy: You can add the corn in frozen. It doesn’t take long to thaw at all.
  • Black-eyed Peas: You will want to drain and rinse them well.
  • Black Beans: We also use canned beans, but you can totally make your own if you want to use dried beans. Just make sure they have cooled completely.
  • Italian Dressing: Feel free to choose your favorite store-bought brand, or you can make it from scratch with olive oil, red wine vinegar, and some basic pantry seasonings.
  • Diced Green Chiles: You can play with the heat a little here and get mild, medium, or hot chiles.
  • Cumin: Just the tiniest bit of cumin adds the best flavor.
  • Salt and Pepper: Taste as you go as you add the S & P and season to taste.

The measurements of all the ingredients can be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.

How to Make This Cowboy Caviar Recipe

It’s all about fresh ingredients, bright flavors, and a quick prep that makes this easy cowboy caviar ideal for busy nights, potlucks, or snacky weekends at home. Follow these simple steps, and you’ll have a colorful bowl of cowboy caviar ready to go in no time.

  1. Drain: Rinse and drain the black beans, black-eyed peas, olives, and canned tomatoes (if using).
  2. Chop: Dice the bell peppers, onions, tomatoes (if fresh), avocado, and cilantro into small pieces.
  3. Toss: Add all the veggies, beans, corn, and green chiles into a large bowl.
  4. Season: Zest and juice the lime over the mix, then sprinkle in the cumin, salt, and pepper.
  5. Dress: Pour Italian dressing over everything and gently mix until well combined.
  6. Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors come together.
  7. Serve: Spoon it up with tortilla chips, add to tacos, or enjoy as a salad!

More detailed instructions can be found in the recipe card below.

Variations for Texas Caviar

In fact, you could totally play around with the flavors, too. Want more bite? Add some jalapeños or a tsp of chili powder. Want half hominy and half corn? Go for it! When are those things ever a bad thing? Never! This recipe is totally versatile and can be customized to your liking. You can omit things you don’t like or switch up anything. Use pinto beans or kidney beans instead of black beans.

How To Make This Cowboy Caviar Recipe into a Meal

Cowboy caviar might be most commonly eaten as a dip with tortilla chips, but in our house, it’s so much more than that. I’ll happily eat it straight as a side dish, and if we have any left after dinner with friends, it’s 100% my lunch the next day! Pure heaven!! We’ve spooned it over tacosburritos, and taco salads, mixed it with rice for a hearty side, and even tossed it with lettuce to turn it into a quick salad. On busy nights, it becomes a full meal.

I love piling it onto baked sweet potatoes, tossing it with warm quinoa and feta, tucking it into wraps with grilled chicken, or scooping it into crisp lettuce cups. It’s budget-friendly, flexible, and always satisfying! It’s one of those fridge staples I rely on when I need something easy that still feels fresh and nourishing. Plus, it’s totally kid-friendly!

How Long Will This Cowboy Caviar Recipe Keep?

Cowboy caviar will keep up to 5 days in the refrigerator. It should be covered with plastic wrap or placed in an airtight container. It does not freeze well because some of the ingredients don’t hold up in the freezer.

This is a great make-ahead recipe and actually tastes better after it sits for a while to let the flavors meld. You can make it up to 3-4 days ahead of time, but if you can let it sit for a few hours (up to overnight) before serving, that is the real sweet spot!

PRO TIP: Don’t add the avocados and cilantro until right before serving.

Tips for Making This Cowboy Caviar Recipe

  • Let it rest: The magic really happens after it sits. Even just 30 minutes of chill time helps the flavors soak into the beans and come together beautifully. I usually make it a day ahead and let it rest overnight for the best flavor.
  • Make it ahead: This is a lifesaver for big events or holidays. You can prep it up to a day or two in advance, which makes entertaining so much easier.
  • Wait on the avocado: Add the avocados just before serving to keep them fresh and vibrant. Nobody wants a brown avocado in their cowboy caviar!
  • Stir well before serving: The dressing tends to settle at the bottom, so give it a really good mix to redistribute all that goodness.

Ok, here it goes…I’m going there (use your best cowboy accent)…so saddle up, partner, and load up your plate full of this here delicious cowboy caviar. It’s fresh, delicious, totally irresistible, and downright purdy with all those beautiful, bright veggies! Yeeeeeeehaw!

There’s always that one appetizer everyone waits for at a party and this easy cheese ball recipe is that recipe for our family. After years of making it for holidays and get-togethers, I can honestly say this is the best cheese ball recipe I’ve ever had.

It’s creamy, perfectly seasoned, and disappears fast every single time.

Charity and Cheese Balls

Our neighbor, Michelle thought up the most genius idea, she cancelled neighbor gifts at Christmas. Now, I’m not against neighbor gifts, but I don’t know that I’m for pouring out all of that extra stress for a bunch of cookies the neighbors throw away. Don’t worry, I’m going to tie it all together so you know what it has to do with The Best Cheese Ball Recipe Ever

We were so impressed with not just Michelle, but how the neighbors responded. Michelle sent out a big letter announcing that instead of doing neighbor gifts, that we should donate to a cause. Everyone could come visit at a little Christmas gathering at her house, bring a donation for a family in need or a reputable charity and visit with each other, which is more of what Christmas is about.

Oh it was such a success!! So much money earned, and we stuffed our faces, I mean, we all got into the Christmas spirit so much more!

It was at this party that I ran, face first into the best cheese ball ever! There I was, standing at the food table, shoveling crackers with cheese ball into my mouth. I finally said, “my gosh, who made this?!!!” And Angie says, “Oh, I did.”

What?! How have I never tasted of this goodness before and how could she stand there so nonchalant?! I mean, it looked like a classic cheese ball with nuts, but something about it was different.

Secret Ingredient in the the Best Cheese Ball

I think it’s the secret, artery clogging ingredient that you all are going to use and not complain a lick about because it’s just that worth it.

Kraft Old English Jarred Cheese.

Yes, it’s cheese in a jar. I’ve linked to it so you can see what to look for.

No, it probably isn’t real cheese. I can’t fight you on that one. Can you pretend it is? Just this once?

The rest of the ingredients are the norm, but I’ll do you a favor and give a quick overview because I love seeing a quick list of ingredients.

What Ingredients are in a Cheese Ball?

The ingredients are so simple, but there are a couple of secrets that really take the flavor over the top! Here is what you will need:

  • Cream Cheese: room temperature and make sure it’s full fat, not low fat or fat free
  • Cheddar Cheese: I like to use medium or sharp cheddar cheese and I always grate it myself – Tillamook is the best!
  • Onion and Garlic Powder: adds the perfect hint of flavor and saltiness
  • Old English Cheese: just trust me on this one!
  • Mayonnaise: adds richness and softens the cheese ball so it is scoopable
  • Lemon Juice: another secret!! This freshens the whole thing up but you’d never guess it was in there.
  • Chopped Pecans: you can omit these if you aren’t a fan, but they add a great texture and a delicious flavor
  • Fresh Parsley: adds the perfect pop of freshness

How to Make a Cheese Ball

When I made a cheese ball for the very first time I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I was trying to use a spatula to shape it into a ball. Haha, actually, it’s not embarrassing at all, that’s hilarious. I don’t know why I was doing that, but it totally didn’t work.

Here’s the secret to forming a cheese ball, it’s a two part process…

  1. Shape and Chill: Once all the ingredients have been combined, scoop it out onto a large piece of plastic wrap. Pull up all the sides around the cheeseball, roughly shaping it into a ball, twisting the top the closed. At this point you give it a little more of a ball shape, then let it chill in the fridge. As the cream cheese mixture solidifies again everything will become easier to press into a ball.
  2. Roll It: Remove from the fridge and unwrap the cheese, rolling it in chopped nuts or bread crumbs. At this point the cheese is more solid and the outside won’t stick to your hands. This is when you can really give it that perfectly round shape.

What to Roll a Cheese Ball in?

Different Options for Rolling a Cheese Ball in:

  • Chopped Pecans
  • Chopped Walnuts
  • Sliced Almonds
  • Chopped Peanuts

What to Roll a Cheese Ball in Besides Nuts:

  • Bacon
  • Dried Fruits
  • Bread Crumbs
  • Panko Bread Crumbs
  • Sliced Green Onions

Or of course there’s also any combination of all those things which is really fun to give some variety.

Are Cheese Balls Gluten Free?

You should know that when I was typing that out I accidentally wrote, “Glue Balls Free” four times. FOUR. What has happened to my brain?!

Cheese balls are generally totally gluten free, but the crackers served alongside the cheeseball often aren’t. Check the ingredients list, but you really should be good to go. I mean, a cheese ball is literally cream cheese and cheese with an occasional addition of sour cream or mayonnaise plus whatever mix-in you want.

What to Serve with Cheese Ball

That’s an important question and I obviously have a strong opinion. Here are some options:

  • Crackers – Ritz Crackers, Wheat Thins, Multi-Grain, Milton’s
  • Pretzels or Pretzel Crisps
  • Crudité with Veggies like carrots, celery or peppers
  • Crostini or Toast Points
  • Mini Bagels
  • Pita Chips
  • Pear and Apple Slices (seriously the sweet and salty is fantastic!)

That’s a lot of options. My favorite, however, well that’s the basic cracker. However, many times a veggie or apple wedge ends up on my plate because I love the freshness and feel like I can eat a few piles more. Calories?! What calories?!

How to Serve a Cheese Ball

Every household needs a beautiful board. If you’re serving a cheese ball to a hungry crowd, you need to have the perfect presentation! I like serving mine on a large plate that has a deep rim to keep all of my crackers that surround the cheese ball in place.

Can I Make a Cheese Ball a Day Ahead?

A cheese ball is quickly becoming the go-to for parties and holidays as you can make it an entire day ahead without worrying about the flavor changing or anything going bad. The key to making a cheese ball recipe a day ahead of time is to wait on removing it from the plastic to roll in its coating. Doing so keeps the nuts or whatever you are using from getting soggy. This is a great make ahead cheese ball recipe!

How Long Can a Cheese Ball Sit Out?

A cheese ball should really only sit out for about 1-2 hours. I know, your party is going longer than that, but resist the urge to keep eating a cheese ball on the counter all evening. Instead, try making smaller cheese balls and once one is gone, pull out the next one.

You’d be surprised how much this will get rid of your food too. Think about it like the rule of supply and demand. That stuff goes fast and people find themselves watching for you to pull the next one out and suddenly you aren’t worried about storing leftovers for weeks.

How Long will a Cheese Ball Last in the Fridge?

Because of the bacteria found in a soft cheese you can keep a cheese ball in the fridge in an airtight container for up to two weeks. However, if you’d added meats or fruits you need to shorten the time to more like 48 hours.

Can You Freeze a Homemade Cheese Ball?

You actually can easily freeze a homemade cheese ball but you need to take one extra step in order to keep ice crystals and stale flavors at bay.

Make your cheese ball as normal, but once it has been formed in the plastic wrap, add it to a freezer bag and press out all of the air. Seal it tightly closed and place it in the freezer, never in the freezer door. The door is different in keeping things frozen.

Once you’re ready to serve, pull the cheese ball into the fridge to defrost for about a day or so. Proceed with the recipe as normal and roll the ball in its coating. Serve within a day.

Forget all the other cheese balls you’ve ever tried and make this one! It will be the best, holiday cheese ball recipe you’ve ever had! With 3 different types of cheese and the perfect amount of simple seasonings, this recipe is irresistible and the taste is outrageous!

Spice up your snack game with this delicious jalapeño poppers recipe made easy in the air fryer! This tasty treat features a creamy cheese filling and a crispy Panko topping that is the perfect appetizer for game day or New Year’s Eve!

When I was just graduating college, jalapeño poppers were really starting to take off as the most popular snack to bring to a game day football party. But I hated spicy. Who wants to bite into a straight up jalapeño?! It made no sense to me, but I could tell Cade actually thought they were pretty good.

I’ve set aside testing a recipe for many years now until it dawned on me that I could air fryer them! The crunchy topping, creamy/cheesy filling would be the perfect way to ease into spicier foods!

Ingredients for Homemade Jalapeño Poppers

The ingredients for homemade jalapeño poppers are simple and easy to find at the grocery store. Here is a list of everything you’ll need:

  • Jalapeños
  • Cream Cheese
  • Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
  • Green Onions
  • Garlic Powder
  • Salt
  • Franks Red Hot Sauce
  • Panko Breadcrumbs
  • Butter

I always like a quick overview of everything I’ll need for a recipe. For all the measurements and details, scroll down to the recipe card below.

How to Make Jalapeno Poppers in the Air Fryer

Making jalapeno poppers in the air fryer is so simple and so much healthier than deep frying them. They are crisp on top and creamy in the middle, and perfect for a Super Bowl party or a game night with friends! Here are basic steps:

  1. Prep: Halve the jalapeno peppers and remove the seeds and membranes. Preheat the air fryer to 370 degrees F.
  2. Mix: Add all the filling ingredients into a small bowl and mix them all together.
  3. Fill: Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the pepper halves.
  4. Combine: In a separate small bowl, combine the panko and butter and then sprinkle the mixture over the top of the filled peppers.
  5. Bake: Place the peppers in a single file and bake for 10 minutes.
    • NOTE: You’ll need to cook the peppers in two batches. You don’t want to overcrowd the peppers.

Please refer to the photos below to see the steps. Then keep scrolling to see a video of the whole process too. All the instructions can also be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.

Tips for Making Jalapeño Poppers

My first tip for making jalapeño poppers is to wear gloves when you are handling the jalapeños. The natural oils that come from the jalapeños are very hot. It hurts if it gets under your fingernails, and if you accidentally touch your eyes or nose, you might want to die. Serious pain!

If you are serving these to people who don’t love heat, use mini bell peppers instead of the jalapeños and follow the same instructions. You could also omit the Frank’s hot sauce from the filling.

Use full fat or low fat cream cheese to make this recipe. I would avoid the fat free cream cheese. The texture just doesn’t turn out right once it is baked.

This is a great make-ahead recipe! You can make the poppers up to 4-5 days ahead of time and store them in an airtight container until you’re ready to air fry them. I would wait and add the panko topping right before baking them. You could also make them completely and freeze them until you’re ready to cook them. Just add a couple extra minutes if you’re cooking them from frozen.

How to Cut a Jalapeños

With gloves on, slice the jalapeños in half lengthwise and then use a small spoon to scrape out the seeds and membranes. I like to leave the stems on just to give them a little handle to grab onto while handling them and eating them.

If you want to leave some heat in the jalapeños, leave the membranes in them. The majority of the spiciness in jalapeños is found in the membranes and seeds.

How to Clean Jalapeno Oil from Your Hands

If you get some of the jalapeño oil on your fingers, there are a few things that will help remove it.

  • Cooking Oil: like canola or vegetable oil
  • Dish Soap: Dawn is the best for removing all oils from anything!
  • Acid: lemon juice or vinegar

What to Serve with Jalapeno Poppers

If you’re making a delicious appetizer spread for a game day party or New Year’s Eve, here are some other ideas what to serve with these poppers:

We have tons of appetizer recipes if you want to keep looking for more!

We also love to have a dip alongside the poppers. Ranch dressing works great, but our favorite is a garlic sauce, (Laziz Toum is our favorite which is from a local restaurant here in Salt Lake City).

Can I Make This Recipe in the Oven?

Yes, if you don’t have an air fryer, these can be cooked in the oven. Place the poppers on a baking sheet and bake in the oven preheated to 400 degrees F for 20 minutes or until golden and the peppers are tender.

Variations

Bacon makes everything better, and if you love the flavor of bacon with jalapeño poppers, you can add crispy cookies bacon bits to the filling or the sprinkled on the top. You could also wrap each popper in a slice of bacon before air frying them. Heaven!

If you want to make this recipe gluten free, then skip the panko topping.

Check out our bacon and strawberry stuffed jalapeno poppers if you are fan of sweet and spicy appetizers! So delicious!

Storing and Reheating

Leftover jalapeño poppers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for 4-5 days.

To reheat cold poppers, I like to use the air fryer to restore that crispiness. Place in an air fryer preheated to 370 degrees F for 4-5 minutes.

Looking for the perfect appetizer to spice up your next party? This delicious and easy jalapeno poppers recipe with a creamy cream cheese filling. I can’t believe how quickly this recipe comes together when we use the trusty air fryer! It is crispy, creamy, spicy and cheesy…all the things you love in a rockstar appetizer!

I never thought I'd see the day that said the secret is in the blue cheese, but in fact, the key to this recipe is the Treasure Cave Blue Cheese!]]> a photo taken over the top of a circular ceramic baking dish full of roasted pear blue cheese dip

Get ready for the most decadent and irresistible blue cheese dip of your life! I never thought I’d see the day that I would say the secret is in the blue cheese, but in fact, the key to this recipe is the Treasure Cave Blue Cheese!

The other secrets are the crispy prosciutto, roasted pears and the other 3 cheeses in the dip, but with everything combined and that unique flavor of blue cheese, this dip recipe is one that will have everyone asking for more!

This tasty blue cheese dip is the next recipe in my partnership with Treasure Cave. Have you tried the blue cheese gratin potato casserole yet? If that didn’t make a blue cheese lover out of you, then this dip surely will!

Treasure Cave is a brand that embraces bold and fun flavors and adventures, and that 100% describes everything I want out of life. So, I partnered with them to create a recipe inspired by my favorite adventure, a trip to Italy that reignited a love for combining flavors in beautiful yet approachable ways.

All haters of blue cheese, I welcome you to the table and challenge you to give this easy blue cheese dip recipe a try and let it make a blue cheese lover out of you! The combination of flavors and textures is so dreamy, I’m so confident you’ll love this creamy blue cheese dip, I’m willing to buy you a new car if you don’t love it! Ok, just kidding, but you absolutely have to give it a try!

Ingredients for Blue Cheese Dip

I took the blue cheese dip basics of sour cream, blue cheese and mayo and augmented them a little to elevate the flavor and make it even more gooey and cheesy. Here is everything you will need:

  • Prosciutto: Adds crunchy texture and a salty, smoky flavor to the dip.
  • Pear: Slice them thin and roast them until brown. They add sweetness and delicious flavor.
  • Olive Oil: Helps roast the pears.
  • Cream Cheese: I prefer the flavor and texture of full fat cream cheese and make sure it is softened so it isn’t clumpy in the dip.
  • Sour Cream: Avoid the light or fat free stuff for the best texture and flavor.
  • Mayonnaise: Use a good quality brand of mayo and choose whatever your favorite brand is.
  • Spices: Ground Cardamom and Ground Nutmeg
  • Salt and Black Pepper: for flavor
  • Treasure Cave Blue Cheese: You can also use Treasure Cave Gorgonzola Cheese if you just can’t get past the blue-ness of the blue cheese.
  • Fontina Cheese: Buy a block if you can find it and shred it yourself.
  • Parmesan Cheese: I like to use a microplane to grate the parmesan myself.
  • Herbs: Thyme and Chives are our favorites, and parsley is also a great option. Be sure to use fresh herbs!

Scroll down to the end of the post for all the measurements for each ingredient.

How to Make Blue Cheese Dip

This easy dip recipe takes a couple of steps to get all the ingredients ready to make this recipe. First, we will get the prosciutto all crispy and then we will roast the pears. Then everything is ready to combine and bake. Here are the steps:

  1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Bake: Lay the prosciutto in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake for 6 minutes. Flip all the pieces and bake for another 5-6 minutes. Remove the prosciutto to a plate to cool and then crumble it up.
  3. Roast: Increase the temperature of the oven to 450 degrees F. Lay the pears in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 10-15 minutes. Flip the pears and bake for another 5 minutes.
  4. Reduce Heat: Decrease the oven to 350 degrees F.
  5. Mix: Add the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise and seasonings to a medium size mixing bowl and mix together with an electric hand mixer.
  6. Fold: Add the blue cheese crumbles, fontina and parmesan and fold into the cream mixture. Add 2/3 of the roasted pears and prosciutto crumbles and fold again.
  7. Bake: Pour the mixture into a baking dish (8×8) or a deep pie dish and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Garnish: Sprinkle the remaining pears, prosciutto and the fresh herbs over the top and bake for 5-10 more minutes.
  9. Serve: Serve it hot and gooey with crostinis!

The recipe card down below contains this recipe in its entirety. You can also print or save the recipe there.

What to Eat with Blue Cheese Dip

I’m going to explain below how to make crostinis at home because they are my favorite thing to eat with this dip, but you can dip almost anything in it! It’s so good! Here are some ideas:

  • Crostinis
  • Carrots Sticks
  • Pita Chips
  • Celery Sticks
  • Crackers
  • Pretzels
  • Bell Peppers
  • Tortilla Chips
  • Bread

How to Make Crostinis

Crostinis are made by slicing an artisan bread, like a baguette, and then brushing it with a little oil or butter and browning it under a broiler until lightly golden.

The bread is then cooled and served alongside dips, or stacked with toppings like in our brown sugar strawberry crostinis.

How to Lighten Up This Recipe

Ok, let me start with a disclaimer on this…yes, you can make this a little lighter but the texture and creaminess and flavor will be very different. If you want to lighten up this dip, then swap the cream cheese for low fat cream cheese, swap the regular mayo for light mayo, full-fat sour cream for light sour cream, and then substitute plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. There’s not anything you can do to lighten up the cheese unfortunately.

What is Treasure Cave?

Treasure Cave is a Wisconsin based company that was founded in 1935 in the caves of Wisconsin. The caves were renovated to be the first blue cheese caves established in America. By the early 1990s, the popularity of Treasure Cave outgrew the caves and they moved to a facility where they continued to make the most delicious cave-aged cheeses. They have made a blue cheese lover out of me!

Where Can I Find Treasure Cave Products?

Here in Utah, I buy Treasure Cave blue cheese at Smith’s or at Harmon’s. The awesome thing is that Treasure Cave has a handy feature on their website where you can search using your zip code and see what grocery stores near you carry their products. It’s so handy!

Storage Tips

Leftover blue cheese and roasted pear dip should be stored in the refrigerator and it will keep for up to 4-5 days.

Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or in the microwave. I prefer to use the oven if I have the time because it gets all caramelized again and bubbly on top again.

I do not recommend freezing this dip recipe.

Made with 4 different cheese (Treasure Cave Blue Cheese being the star!), crispy prosciutto, roasted pears and fresh herbs, this homemade blue cheese dip is unlike anything you’ve tried before! Perfect for a tailgating party on game day, an appetizer on New Years Eve, or a starter for your holiday festivities.

Brown sugar apple dip is only 3 simple ingredients and it’s the most addicting and creamy fruit dip. I seriously can’t stop eating it! Be sure you have plenty of apples in the house because you’re going to be dipping them until the dip is gone!

I served this brown sugar cream cheese apple dip last month at a baby shower and then forgot to ever post it. That’s kind of how life goes. I get so busy I suddenly realized I didn’t follow up on doing something. We served this dip with fresh apple slices and Cade seriously made sure that I left him his own personal serving at home.

Anyway, none of that really matters when you’ve got brown sugar apple dip staring you in the face. Man, I love me some brown sugar! Shhhh…I always take a pinch or two and eat it plain. Do you??

Sometimes it’s hard to think up something yummy for after school treats or something a little different to take to a party and I think this dip is the perfect thing.

Ingredients for Brown Sugar Apple Dip

There are only 3 simple ingredients needed and it all comes together in just 5 minutes. Here is your ingredients list:

  • Cream Cheese – the block style cream cheese is preferred, not the whipped spread, and it’s important that it’s at room temperature so it mixes easily with the sugar and vanilla
  • Brown Sugar – adds all the sweetness and balances the tanginess of the cream cheese
  • Vanilla Extract – adds delicious flavor

The measurements for each of the ingredients can be found in the recipe card down below. You can’t beat the taste of this simple creamy mixture!

What Apples are Best for Dipping?

My favorite apple for dipping will forever and always be Honeycrisp apples. Braeburn, Envy, or Pink Lady apples are also super delicious. If you like your apples to be a little more tart, go for Granny Smith apples. They actually pair with the sweet brown sugar dip brilliantly.

Can I Use Low Fat Cream Cheese?

Yes, the low fat cream cheese works great, but I would avoid the fat free cream cheese.

How Long Will Apples Keep?

If stored properly, apples should keep for 2 months. Apples should be kept in the refrigerator.

Are Apples Healthy?

Apples are packed with antioxidants, flavonoids, and dietary fiber. The antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.

Apples do contain a fair amount of carbs. A 3″ diameter apple has about 25 carbs.

How to Keep Apple Slices from Turning Brown

Using sliced apples can be a little tricky because they brown so quickly, and then they are a little less appetizing. This is especially the case when you want to have sliced apples out at a party or gathering. I have a solution for you! Citric acid!

Before serving the sliced apples, soak them in a water and citric acid. Citric acid can be found in lemon juice, orange juice or pineapple juice. For every 1 cup of water you use, add 1 tablespoon of your citric acid source.

All of the apples should be covered with the water. Let them soak for about 5 minutes. Remove them from the water and let them drain. You can even pat them dry a little. This will help keep them looking fresh for at least a few hours.

What Can I Dip in Brown Sugar Apple Dip?

You don’t need to limit yourself to just apples! The apples are heaven in this dip, but there are all kinds of options. Here are some ideas:

  • Pretzels
  • Graham Crackers
  • Other Fruit (strawberries, bananas, pineapple, etc.)
  • Animal Crackers
  • Nilla Wafers

As long as we are talking about mixing things up, you can also mix in some toffee bits to add a little crunch and even more caramel flavor. P.S. Have you tried our peanut butter toffee apple dip recipe?? Come to momma!!

Storage Tips

Creamy apple dip should be stored in the fridge in an airtight container. It will keep for about a week. It unfortunately doesn’t freeze well so you’re just gonna have to eat it all!!

Whether you need a delicious recipe for an after school snack, game day, a baby/bridal shower, or a fun family gathering, this brown sugar apple dip is a great option! It’s a hit with kids and adults and loved by everyone!
