  • 1 ½ lbs Pork Chops cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons BBQ Rub

Instructions

  • In a pie plate, sprinkle pork with seasoning and toss to coat well.
    1 ½ lbs Pork Chops, 1 ½ Tablespoons BBQ Rub
  • Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
    2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • Brown the pork bites in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until edges are crispy and browned, drizzling more oil as needed. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Reduce heat to medium. Add butter and cook until melted.

Cooking kielbasa on a sheet pan is as easy as it gets. Here are the basic steps to mastering this recipe: 

  1. Make the Sauce: Whisk together the honey garlic sauce in a bowl. 
  2. Roast the Potatoes: Oil the sheet pan and spread out the chopped potatoes in a single layer. Toss with more olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roast the Kielbasa: Add the sliced kielbasa to the sheet pan and brush with all but 2 tablespoons of sauce.
  4. Cook the Broccoli: Bake for 20 minutes, then add broccoli to the sheet pan and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes.
  5. Serve: Brush the kielbasa with the remaining sauce just before serving. Enjoy! 

Can I Use Different Veggies in This Sheet Pan Recipe?

Absolutely! You definitely don’t have to use the same veggies we did, we just loved how the Polish kielbasa sausage paired with the root vegetables. However, you could use asparagus, carrots, onions, brussel sprouts, or any other veggies you have on hand. 

Can I Double This Kielbasa Recipe?

Have more mouths to feed? You can definitely double this recipe, but you’ll want to split the ingredients between two sheet pans and rotate them in the oven halfway through baking. If you try to cram the ingredients onto one sheet pan, you’ll overcrowd the pan and the veggies will steam instead of roast.

What to Serve with Kielbasa Sheet Pan Dinner

We serve this kielbasa recipe with a side salad just to freshen things up even more. Grains like rice and quinoa also pair nicely with this sheet pan dinner. But this truly is so filling on its own — and what’s the point in a one-pan dinner if you’re going to do even more work?

Storing, Reheating and Make Ahead

This sheet pan recipe is best the day it’s made, but leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 5 days. Be sure to store it in an airtight container.

To reheat it, I like to use the oven so the kielbasa gets a little crispy and caramelized again. Reheat in a 350℉ oven in a single layer on a sheet pan for 10-15 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, a quick zap in the microwave works just fine too!

You can cut the kielbasa and broccoli ahead of time and prep the sauce. You can make the sauce up to 2 or 3 days ahead of time. Just store it in the fridge until ready to use. Then when it’s time for dinner, just cube the potatoes and sweet potatoes and toss everything on the sheet pan.

  3. Cook the Bacon: Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Transfer the bacon to a plate. Once cool enough to handle, crumble into small pieces.
  4. Combine: Add the green beans to the same pan you cooked the bacon in. Add a little oil and butter as well and sauté until hot and flavorful, then garnish with the bacon crumbles and serve!

How to Prepare Fresh Green Beans

If you are using fresh beans, then you will want to snap the ends off, making sure that you pull the attached “string” off with the stem (you will notice a fibrous string along the side that will come off when you try to “snap” the stem off. It’s similar to celery strings).

You can leave green beans long, but I actually prefer to snap ours once or twice because they are easier to eat.

How Long to Boil Fresh Green Beans?

For this simple green bean recipe, cook the fresh green beans in boiling water for 4 to 5 minutes. Then, drain the beans and immediately submerge them in an ice bath to prevent them from cooking further. You’ll end up with bright green crispy-tender green beans.

An ice bath is used in cooking to quickly stop the cooking process. Don’t be tempted to skip it as the green beans will continue to cook and won’t be as appetizing. The ice bath will also keep the green beans a vibrant green versus over cooked beans that become dull in color and often tinged with brown.

Can I Use Canned Green Beans Instead of Fresh?

Yes, this recipe can be made with fresh or canned string beans. If you use canned green beans, make sure that you use a pan that’s bigger as they will need space in order to not turn to mush in the pan when you sauté them. Skip the boiling and ice bath completely.

Can Green Beans and Bacon Be Made Ahead?

Green beans can be made ahead of time if you follow a few simple steps.
1. Boil the green beans like normal, but cut the time down to about 3 minutes.
2. Drain and place the beans in the ice bath and as soon as they are cool, place in a paper towel and blot them dry.
3. Store the partially cooked beans in a zip top bag in the fridge for up to 2 days.
4. Then, finish making the fresh green beans with bacon as the recipe instructs.

Can Green Beans be Frozen?

Green beans can be frozen as long as you blanch them first. Prepare the green beans just as you would for the make-ahead green beans. Place them in their bags and press out all of the air as you seal them. Lay the bags flat in the freezer and freeze.

  • If you don’t have garlic spread seasoning on hand, you’re welcome to use another favorite seasoning blend. Or, keep it simple and use regular garlic powder (you won’t need 2 teaspoons though).
  • We used regular pork bacon for this easy green bean recipe, but you’re welcome to use any kind you’d like.
  • These fresh green beans with bacon are best enjoyed right away while the bacon is still crisp. However, leftovers can be reheated in a skillet on the stove.

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound Green Beans ends trimmed and broken into pieces
  • 3-4 Slices Bacon
  • 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Butter

Instructions

  • Prepare an ice bath by placing ice and water in a large bowl.
  • Wash the beans, snap the ends, and snap into pieces and drop into a pot of boiling water.
    1 Pound Green Beans
  • Cook for 4-5 minutes and then place in an ice bath.
  • Cook the bacon until crispy and remove to a paper towel-lined plate, reserving the bacon grease.
    3-4 Slices Bacon
  • To the skillet with the bacon grease, add a drizzle of oil if needed and the butter.

What Cut of Meat are Country-Style Ribs?

I hope you’re sitting down for this one, but country-style pork ribs aren’t even ribs. They are cuts of pork shoulder (aka pork butt) and is the same meat you use to make pulled pork and carnitas.

Are Country Style Ribs Beef or Pork?

Country-style ribs can be either beef or pork. It just depends on what you prefer. Beef will be quite a bit meatier. For this recipe, we prefer pork country-style ribs. We also prefer boneless over bone-in.

They are easy on the wallet! You can often find country-style ribs for a fraction of the cost of baby back or spare ribs.  They also have great fat marbling which makes them extra tender and super flavorful.

The dry rub builds a smoky-sweet base, the homemade BBQ sauce takes it up a notch, and the ribs soak in all that goodness under pressure for perfect, tender results.

  • Brown Sugar: Adds sweetness and helps the rub caramelize beautifully.
  • Pepper: A little bite to balance the sweet.

  • Chili Powder: A mild heat with smoky undertones.
  • Smoked Paprika: Adds some of that grilled flavor.
  • Thyme: Adds earthy, herbaceous balance.

How to Cook Country Style Ribs in the Instant Pot

  1. Rub: The first step to making these ribs is to set aside a little bit of our smoky BBQ rub and then rub each rib with it.
  2. Brown: Next, you’ll want to brown each rib in the Instant Pot (set to sauté mode). Be sure to add a little oil to the Instant Pot first. If you don’t have the sauté setting, you can totally brown the ribs in a pan on the stove! Once they’re browned slightly, remove them to a plate and turn off sauté mode.
  3. Pressure Cook: You’re pretty much done already! Add the apple juice and liquid smoke to the Instant Pot, then drop in the trivet (I linked my favorite one!). Place the ribs on top, seal the lid, and set the valve to seal. Cook on manual pressure–high for 32 minutes.
  4. Release: Allow a 10-minute natural release, then carefully turn the valve to do a quick release.
  5. Transfer: The ribs will be so tender they’ll be falling apart—use tongs to carefully transfer them to an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet.
  6. Broil: Set your oven to broil and sprinkle more of that BBQ rub all over the ribs. This is the secret step that makes them taste like they just came off the grill! Broil for up to 3 minutes, just until they start to get crispy.
  7. Serve: Serve them hot with a generous side of our favorite BBQ Sauce, and don’t be surprised if you’re adding country-style ribs to your weekly shopping list.

Can You Cook Ribs from Frozen in the Instant Pot?

Yes, cooking frozen country pork-style ribs works quite well in the Instant Pot. The cooking time will stay the same, but the time the Instant Pot takes to come to pressure will take longer. The cooking time won’t start until the pot comes to pressure. Be sure to take that into account when you’re giving you kids a time to be home for dinner!

How Many Ribs Do I Need to Feed a Crowd?

Whether you are cooking for your family or for a larger crowd, you can plan on adults eating about 2 ribs per person. Our kids usually just eat one.

Can Country-Style Ribs Be Cooked in the Slow Cooker?

Yes, you can definitely cook country-style ribs in the slow cooker. Sometimes, a slow cooker meal just fits better into your schedule. I totally get that! Follow the same steps of coating the ribs in BBQ rub and browning them on the stove. Pour the apple juice and liquid smoke in the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. Follow the same instructions for broiling them after they are cooked.

How Long Will Country-Style Ribs Keep?

These ribs store beautifully and are perfect for meal prep or leftovers. Once cooked, let the ribs cool completely, then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. They also freeze well! Just wrap tightly in foil or place in a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze for up to 2–3 months. Reheat in the oven or the microwave. For frozen ribs, thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.

  • Set aside 1-2 Tablespoons of BBQ Rub.
    [1/3 Cup BBQ Rub ]
  • Rub each rib with the rub.

    1/2 Cup Apple Juice, 1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke
  • Add the trivet. Place the ribs on top
  • Attach the lid and set the valve to seal.
  • Turn the instant pot to manual pressure, high and set for 32 minutes.
  • Allow a 10 minute natural release then turn the valve to do a quick release.
  • Carefully, the ribs will be falling apart, remove the ribs to a foil lined baking sheet.
  • Set the oven to broil and sprinkle a little more rub over the ribs. Broil for up to 3 minutes or until the ribs start to crisp a little.

  • Take the ribs out of the oven and serve with a side of Homemade BBQ Sauce.

Warm up on a cold day with this delicious and hearty ham and bean soup recipe. Packed with protein and flavor, it’s the perfect comfort food for using up leftover ham.

I wish there was a grand story behind this recipe, but the truth is, there isn’t! Sometimes I am given suggestions for recipes that would benefit the blog, and this was one of them. So away I went to make a perfect ham and bean soup, and this is it!

It is very cozy anyway without being heavy and I love that while it’s mostly broth it actually is a bit creamy from the white beans and doing a little trick that I love doing with soups. Keep scrolling to find out!

Ingredients for Ham and Bean Soup

We like to make this recipe with leftover Christmas (or Easter) ham, but if you don’t have, just buy a ham at the store. With a few vegetables and herbs, you’ll be making delicious ham and bean soup in no time! Here is everything you will need:

  • Oil
  • Celery Stalks
  • Carrots
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Fresh Thyme
  • Fresh Flat Leaf Italian Parsley
  • Ground Mustard
  • Vegetable or Chicken Broth
  • Ham Hock
  • Ham
  • Great Northern Beans or Navy Beans
  • Bay Leaves
  • White Pepper (black pepper is also fine)
  • Salt

How to Make Ham and Bean Soup

Soup should be easy! And this soup is so simple! I’m going to walk you through each step, and most of the time spent on this recipe is waiting for it to simmer and get all delicious! Here are the basic steps:

  1. Sauté: Heat the oil over medium heat in a large Dutch oven or large pot and sauté all the veggies including the garlic until tender and fragrant.
  2. Stir: Add the herbs and seasonings and stir. Then add in the rest of the ingredients and stir together.
  3. Boil and Simmer: Bring the soup to a boil and then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 2-3 hours.
  4. Blend: Scoop out 1 ½ cups of the soup (avoiding the meat) and blend until smooth (using an immersion blender or regular blender). Add it back into the soup and stir to combine.
  5. Remove: Take out the ham hocks and remove any meat left on the bones and remove the bay leaves.
  6. Simmer: Let the soup cook for another 30 minutes and serve with crusty bread.

Yes, just sauté the veggies first on the stove top. Then add everything to a crockpot and cook on low for 4-5 hours or on high for 2-3 hours. I’d still blend 1 ½ cups and add it back into the soup just to thicken the soup a little.

Can I Make Ham and Bean Soup in the Instant Pot?

Yes, same as with the slow cooker, sauté the veggies first either in the Instant Pot or on the stovetop, and then add everything to the Instant Pot. Cook on high pressure for 30 minutes and allow for a natural release. Blend 1 ½ cups of the soup as written in the instructions in the recipe card and add it back to the soup stirring to combine. I love the texture it adds to the broth.

How to Thicken Ham and Bean Soup

Two things I like to do to thicken this soup…first, I add the canned beans in without draining them. Second, pulling out that cup and a half of the broth and veggies to blend really adds to the creaminess of the broth without making it too heavy. It really boosts the depth of flavor too!

What to Serve with Ham and Bean Soup

One of my unbreakable rules with soup is that it has to be with bread! You gotta have something delicious to sop that broth up with! So if you’re making this tasty ham soup, here are some great bread recipes to try:

I don’t love St. Patrick’s Day. I struggle to come up with anything cute, and the traps—oh, the traps! They’re entertaining to watch the kids work on, but as someone who’s not crafty, I don’t have any doodads lying around waiting to be “artified.”

Last year, I felt overwhelmed with the inklings of an impending move, and then bam—St. Patty’s Day hit. My friend Megan offered the perfect solution: “Just do the ol’ cabbage, sausage, and potatoes in one pot and be done.” She wasn’t wrong! I followed her advice, and voilà—dinner was ready in 30 minutes, and it was delicious.. WHY IS IT SO GOOD? With just a handful of ingredients, everyone devoured it, and the leftovers froze beautifully in my Food Saver.

Ingredients for Sausage, Cabbage and Potatoes

Get ready to make this quick and easy dinner with just six (possibly seven) ingredients:

  • Sausage: Choose your favorite: smoked sausage, turkey sausage, pork, chicken, bratwurst, or kielbasa.
  • Potatoes: Yukon Golds are my favorite, but red or Russet potatoes also work. Peeling is optional.
  • Onion: Red or yellow, depending on your flavor preference.
  • Cabbage: Green is my go-to, but red cabbage adds a pop of color. If you’re using this for St Patrick’s Day, the more green the better!
  • Olive Oil: Helps caramelize the vegetables. Or, for extra richness, you can swap for butter.
  • Salt and Pepper: I prefer kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper for seasoning.

Yes, this recipe works great in the Instant Pot. To start, you’ll want to cook the potatoes first. Begin by peeling and slicing the potatoes to the size you prefer. Next, toss them into the Instant Pot for 2-3 minutes on high pressure. After that, let it natural release for 5-10 minutes. Once the time is up, remove the lid, switch it to sauté mode, and add a little olive oil. Then, add the onions, sausage, and cabbage, and cook everything until the potatoes are starting to get golden, the onions are translucent, and the cabbage is cooked down. Finally, add salt and pepper to taste.

Storing, Reheating, and Freezing Cabbage, Sausage, and Potatoes

Braised sausage, cabbage, and potatoes should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, and it will keep for up to 3 days.

Ingredients

  • 4 Sausages sliced, I used garlic flavored

I bet you never thought you could enjoy lasagna for dinner in just 30 minutes! This lazy ravioli skillet lasagna recipe includes tender pasta, a hearty meat sauce and a creamy cheese filling.

I was looking for a really quick and easy way to enjoy lasagna without going through all the hassle and this actually might be even better to me than lasagna. I mean, there is a time and place for classic lasagna, but most weeknights we are busy and I need something fast that I know everyone will love.

Oh, and I am not a fan of ricotta cheese in lasagna. It’s so dry and not once while visiting Italy, did we ever have a single lasagna on the menu that included ricotta cheese so if I don’t do a bechamel sauce I really do think, as weird as it sounds, that cottage cheese makes a better filling it’s creamier and just better overall.

If you’re looking for more of a lasagna soup, try our one pot lasagna pasta! Like this skillet lasagna, it tastes like lasagna but is just a different spin on it.

Ingredients for Skillet Lasagna

Lazy lasagna uses a fraction of the ingredients of traditional lasagna and it takes a fraction of the time and effort. Here are the ingredients you will need for this recipe:

  • Rana Ravioli: We love Rana brand for quick pastas. They have several flavors that would be delicious in this recipe. We used the 4 Cheese flavor and two of the 10oz bags.

For the Filling

  • Cottage Cheese: adds creaminess and texture
  • Parmesan: adds flavor
  • Egg: acts as a binder
  • Basil: use fresh for the best flavor
  • Parsley: fresh is best
  • Salt and Pepper: adds flavor

For the Sauce

NOTE: If you have the time, I would make our authentic Bolognese sauce instead of this quick and easy sauce. You’ll only need half a batch, so you can save half for another night. If you are aiming for that 30 minute dinner, then this is what you will need for the sauce:

  • Ground Beef: use 15/85 for the best flavor
  • Mild Italian Sausage: full of spices for added flavor, could use spicy for more of a kick
  • Rao’s Marinara: I haven’t found a better tasting store bought sauce, and it’s the cheapest at Costco. Of course, you can use any brand you want.
  • Dried Basil: I literally have no reason other than in college that’s how I made this recipe so it is habit. If you want to use fresh, make it 1 1/2 teaspoons.
  • Dried Parsley: same story as the basil
  • Salt: boosts flavor
  • Mozzarella Cheese: get a block of mozz and grate your own, buying the pre-shredded just won’t melt the same
  • Parmesan Cheese: adds more flavor

How to Make One Skillet Lasagna

Here are the step by step instructions for making this lazy lasagna recipe. For all the details, scroll to the end of the post to the recipe card.

  1. Preheat the oven to 425° degrees.
  2. Brown both meats in a cast iron skillet. Drain grease if necessary and then stir in all the remaining sauce ingredients.
  3. Cook the pasta in a separate pot.
  4. Combine all the ingredients for the filling in a bowl.
  5. Assemble the lasagna by placing a layer of meat sauce down first followed by a third of the pasta and a third of the cheese layer.
  6. Repeat those layers ending with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake until golden and bubbly and then top with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley.

What Type of Pan to Use

We like to use a large cast iron skillet so that it can be used on the stove top and go into the oven. A shallow dutch oven would also work great! If you don’t have either of those, you can cook everything on the stove top and then layer the different components in a 9×13 casserole dish and bake as written.

What to Serve with Skillet Lasagna

I don’t know why garlic bread with lasagna is a thing, because hello carbs, but it is just heaven! I always want a yummy slice of some sort of bread to scoop up the extra sauce. Regular french bread, focaccia, or a crusty artisan loaf are all great too.

I also usually serve something a little lighter along with it like a simple green salad or some asparagus.

This recipe is so flexible and can be added to, subtracted from and customized to your liking!

  • Vegetables: This is a great recipe for sneaking some vegetables in to hide them from your kiddos (or husband😂). Grated zucchini or carrots are great. If you are serving vegetable lovers, then cubed zucchini, sliced carrots or spinach all work great. Mushrooms is another great option to add in.
  • Pasta: The pasta can be substituted easily. You can use a different flavor ravioli or tortellini. Pasta that isn’t stuffed, like bowtie or shells would work great too.
  • Meat: You can use all ground beef or all sausage. You could also lighten things up and use ground turkey or chicken and turkey sausage.

Make Ahead and Storage Tips

This skillet lasagna is a great recipe to make ahead of time. You can make the whole recipe and then cover it before baking and store in the refrigerator for up 3 days ahead of time. Then bake as directed.

Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for 3-4 days. You can also freeze leftovers. Let them cool completely, then place them in an airtight container. They will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to eat it, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then reheat in the oven at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until heated through.

For the Filling

  • 1 1/2 Cups Cottage Cheese small curd

Instructions

  • Repeat the layers ending with the final mozzarella cheese.

My mom’s classic recipe that I hated for nearly my entire life, yes, even as an adult. I don’t know what has happened but in the last few years I’ve had such a craving for the classic recipes that I grew up on. Call it nostalgia, or maybe I’m just finally growing up and realizing what a gift it was that my mom made dinner literally every night and we always ate around a dinner table together.

This recipe is from her dear friend, Debbie, and I don’t remember a single year of my life that Mom didn’t make it, so it’s been around for a long time.

Ingredients for Ham Potato Broccoli Casserole

Grab your leftover ham and a few other ingredients, and let’s make this comforting casserole for dinner! Here is everything you’ll need:

  • New Potatoes: a little sweeter and less starchy than regular russet or yukon gold potatoes, we love the flavor and texture!
  • Broccoli: fresh or frozen broccoli florets work great
  • Butter: used to salute and onions and mushrooms
  • Onion: just a regular yellow onion
  • Baby Bella Mushrooms: can be substituted with white button mushrooms or omitted if desired
  • Salt and Pepper: adds flavor
  • Ham: adds flavor and protein
  • Cream Cheese: adds richness and creaminess
  • Cheddar Cheese: adds flavor and gooiness

Substitutions and Variations

I love to use leftover ham in this recipe, but any protein tastes great in this casserole. You could use rotisserie chicken, ground beef, bacon, sausage, etc.

Growing up, Mom usually skipped the mushrooms or only put them on half of the casserole in order to please her picky kids, but they are in fact her favorite part. Sautéed with onions in gobs of delicious butter, I mean, what isn’t to love?

You can also change up the vegetables in this casserole. Peas or green beans would be super yummy!

How to Make Ham Potato and Broccoli Casserole

  1. Prep: Butter or spray a 9×13 baking dish and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Parboil: Partially boil the potatoes for 8-10 minutes then drain and set aside. See section below for skipping this step.
  3. Steam: Place the broccoli in a saucepan and steam until bright green.
  4. Sauté: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat and add the onions and mushrooms. Stir occasionally until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are browning and tender.
  5. Layer: Place the potatoes in the prepared baking dish and season with salt and pepper. Top them with the onions and mushrooms, then add the broccoli and ham. Stick the cream cheese chunks all over the dish and the sprinkle the cheddar cheese all over the top.
  6. Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil for the last 5-10 minutes.

Do I Have to Parboil the Potatoes?

No, you don’t have to parboil the potatoes. If you want to skip the parboil, just bake the casserole for 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender. If I do it this way the potatoes caramelize more, which I adore, but it also means you need to add the cheese at the end versus the beginning of baking.

Can You Make Ahead this Casserole Recipe?

This is a great make ahead recipe. Follow all of the instructions as written up until baking it. Then place the covered casserole dish in the refrigerator until you’re ready to bake it. Bake as stated in the recipe card. You might just need to add a few more minutes to the baking time since we are baking it from cold.

What to Serve with Cheesy Ham and Broccoli Potato Casserole

This is one of those casseroles where you can get away with not making any side dishes. Since you have a protein, starch and vegetables all in the dish, you really don’t need anything else.

However, if you want to lighten things up a little with something fresh, a tomato cucumber salad or a spinach berry salad are a great option! A fruit salad also goes great with this casserole!

Storing and Reheating

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to 5 days.

This casserole also freezes really well. Let it cool completely and then place it in a freezer safe container. It will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.

I prefer to reheat the casserole in the oven, especially if I’m warming up enough for the whole fam. If I’m just reheating a single serving for myself for lunch the next day, then I zap it in the microwave.

My family has this funny way of eating ham, we eat it with applesauce. It is truly delicious. I mean, apples and pork are meant to be together and while many may not do actual applesauce they really should. We always use my mom’s homemade applesauce which is 10x better than any ol’ can. Or we did, until we found these ham dipping sauces.

My cousin, Robyn works as the manager for the LDS Church’s Catering and she is the one that introduced me to these easy ham dipping sauces.

I don’t know what it is about ham, but I just have to have a little sauce to dip it in.

Ingredients for Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce for Ham

This honey mustard recipe is my personal favorite, which is funny because I’m not a lover of mustard. I tell you what though, it is wonderful with the ham. DELIGHTFUL. You only need 3 simple ingredients:

  • Mayonnaise: Duke’s is our favorite brand of mayo, but you can use whatever brand is your favorite.
  • Honey: adds natural sweetness
  • Mustard: Just regular yellow mustard is our preference, but you change up the flavor to your liking with dijon mustard, stone ground mustard, etc.

  • Cream of Coconut: head to the alcohol section of your local grocery store and it will be by the margarita mixes
  • Sour Cream: use full fat sour cream for maximum flavor and creaminess
  • Crushed Pineapple: make sure you drain it before adding to the sauce
  • Desiccated Coconuthas a more fine and powdery texture than shredded coconut and a milder flavor

I probably don’t even need to include this section because there’s nothing to it, but here are basic steps for making each sauce:

  1. Combine: Place all of the ingredients in a small bowl and stir until combined and smooth.
  2. Refrigerate: Keep in the fridge until ready to serve.

For the Pina Colada Sauce

  1. Stir: Place the cream of coconut and sour cream in a bowl and mix to combine.
  2. Combine: Add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine everything together.

Storing Dipping Sauce for Ham

Both of these dipping sauces should be stored in the refrigerator in separate airtight containers. I always use mason jars to store them! They will keep for up to a week. I wouldn’t recommend freezing these sauces.

This they store so well, you can make them up to 3-4 days ahead of time too. One less thing to make for your holiday meal!

Ingredients

Honey Mustard

Pina Colada

  • 1 ⅔ Cups Cream of Coconut
  • 1 ⅛ Cups Sour Cream
  • 1 Cup Crushed Pineapple drained
  • Cup Desiccated Coconut or coconut flakes

Instructions

For the Honey Mustard

  • Place all of the ingredients in a small bowl and stir until smooth.
    1 Cup Mayonnaise, ¼ Cup Honey, ⅛ Cup Mustard
  • Keep in the fridge until ready to serve.

For the Piña Colada Sauce

  • Place the cream of coconut and sour cream in a bowl.
    1 ⅔ Cups Cream of Coconut, 1 ⅛ Cups Sour Cream
  • Stir until smooth and add the remaining ingredients.
    1 Cup Crushed Pineapple, ⅓ Cup Desiccated Coconut
  • Store in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

Cream of coconut is actually quite easy to find. Just head to the alcohol section of your local grocery store and it will be by the margarita mixes etc.
Dessicated coconut is an extremely dehydrated coconut product, use flakes or skip if necessary.

The first time I made a spiral ham I thought, “Well that was easy!” until I started to carve it. I needed to know how to carve a spiral ham. That darn bone in the center and all of the layers, with incredible smoky flavor, falling forward was creating a problem for me. Sure the ham was easy to make, put it in a pan, tent with foil and bake, but now how was I to serve it? And boy did I wish that I had those delicious dipping sauces that I posted last week. Pina Colada dipping sauce and sweet honey mustard? Booyah!

Carving a spiral ham is quite easy. I’ve never had a bone so perfectly in the center of the ham like this one, but it was fine by me.

How to Carve a Spiral Ham

  1. Turn the ham on its bottom, as shown in the picture.
  2. Find the bone, and using a large knife and fork, cut around the entire bone.
  3. There are natural breaks in the ham, generally where a line of fat is, cut through those breaks as shown in the picture.
  4. Lay the slices of ham out on a platter for serving.
